What does CPIM stand for?

CPIM certifiedCPIM stands for Certified in Production and Inventory Management. This is a professional designation offered by APICS, The Association for Operations Management, to help operations, inventory, and logistics professionals in the manufacturing industry to show expertise and on-going curiosity and learning in their field.

Professionals interested in pursuing this certificate do so by undergoing five proctored examination that cover the following topics:

  • Basics of Supply Chain Management
  • Master Planning of Resources
  • Detailed Scheduling and Planning
  • Execution and Control of Operations
  • Strategic Management of Resources

The APICS CPIM designation is ideal for early-career professionals looking for an accreditation to aid them in continuing their career. This designation is also a prerequisite for more experienced individuals who are looking to earn a higher-level designation (either the APICS CSCP or CFPIM). Unlike other designations, there is no education requirement to receive the CPIM certificate, but a minimum of two years of professional experience is advised.
